They say not to judge a book by its cover but there are times that I find myself in a bookshop looking at a book because its cover puzzled me. And so does this one, it puzzles me, it makes me wonder where this story leads up to. To begin something from scratch is not that easy and you often find yourself wondering whether you made the right choices. I fell in love with and fell under the spell of Venice when I was there about 15 years ago. The magic of that unique place has never left me. I would love to return there, but with money being tight, it's just a continual daydream and fantasy at the moment. There was a purse in there, too. Of course I took it out and opened it. And yes, there was information to be had. The only question - was it he, or she, who had tossed the suit and the bag? And was that the beginning, or the end, of the discoveries...?

I haven't heard of this book but you've certainly sold it. I was fortunate to visit Venice for a short weekend many years ago and it is certainly an enchanting place. I have a soft spot for any books set there - you should try The Book of Human Skin if you feel the same.

I love the paragraph you shared from the book. I so wish I could travel to Venice. From all I've read and seen in pictures, it sounds like an incredible place to experience. Maybe someday!
