I am reading along in spirit, in theory, and in practice. But I am moving more slowly. Genesis 32 is where I am at. Not so bad, but at this pace I'll need more than a year.
ReplyDeleteI think we need to be careful not to be concerned with quantity as much as quality. If only reading a few books of the Bible this year is wha5 one does, that is worthy of something.
Deleteugh....my year did not start out the way I expected (does it ever?). with our power out for a week, leaving to help a friend with her daughter's wedding and then my son in the hospital...I am ridiculously behind. I AM going to try and catch up though!!!
ReplyDeleteSara! Your son in he hospital?! Oh, dear, I hope he's better now. xo
DeleteI am reading (a diff plan) and now almost through with Nehemiah. I am learning so much! I must say that after getting through all the numbers/tabernacle details in later books, I am looking forward to going back to Genesis to re-read that. If I manage to keep up with my current plan (180 Days) I will finish in May. A huge accomplishment for me! =)
ReplyDeleteThe trick is to NOT skip a day! (*& I totally recommend using a Study Bible)!
Good luck to everyone who joins your reading plan!
I know! Skipping a day can make the pages really accrue. I love my Scofield Study Bible (it's much lighter than my Life Application, but still full of meaningful footnotes), and now with my iPad I find all kinds of translations and helps available. Finishing in May would be awesome! Where did you find that plan?
DeleteAck! I just saw this, and I have catching up to do! :D
ReplyDeletePerhaps an audio version would be helpful ( like in he car)? :)
DeleteI started Bible study classes at my church almost three years ago. I learned that the Bible is NOT meant to be read in order, from cover to cover. That is why most people never finish. They give up once they get to Leviticus or the Book of Numbers. Very dry, boring stuff. Certain books have to be read in light of other books and then taken together as a whole. We are doing the Jeff Cavins Bible Timeline Series (we watch the video and then have discussion with our priest), and it is excellent! We started out the first year with the overview (which covered many books in the Bible!), then last year the Book of Matthew, now this year the Book of Acts. It is awesome and I cannot recomment it enough!
ReplyDeleteI've read the Bible through many times, but I realize it would be easier (clearer?) to do so in a chronological format. The only part I like about the books of the law are coming to the New Testament and seeing we are saved by grace, and no under any condemnation! Thanks for you comment and resource ideas.
