Mailbox Monday: The Persephone Biannually

It's always exciting when The Persephone Biannually arrives in my mailbox. Inside are updates on things going on in the Persephone world, such as the publication of three new titles this April: Miss Buncle Married by De Stevenson, Midsummer Night in the Workhouse by Diana Athill, and The Sack of Bath by Adam Fergusson.

There is a listing of the 93 Persephone book titles available, a short story by Diana Athill entitled "The Real Thing", and articles on Sicily as well as Bath.

So honored to be included in this Spring's edition along with bloggers Rebecca Reads, Paperback Reader, Books and Chocolate, Iris on Books, Fleur Fisher, Book Snob, Desperate Reader, chasing bawaA Book Sanctuary, Savidge Reads, Sasha & the Silverfish, Harriet Devine's Blog and Stuck in a Book.

Looking forward to the titles they've recommended which I haven't yet read, perusing the magazine from cover to cover, and quite probably ordering a few more books for my collection. The delights of this British bookshop are endless.

  5. Congrats from this side of the pond, had heard of persephone, by didn't know about mag/catalogue ? Liking the idea it looks beautiful in that classic kind of way. I will publicly thank you for your compliment on behalf of the British bookshop (even those I don't know :~> ).

  6. Diane, you can get some of the Persephone classics on amazon.com for a very reasonable price. Of course, they don't come with the beautiful bookmark that way, but they are more affordable. With the way our dollar is faring...

Chris, that's so funny that you saw my name in there, too. Don't the new titles look great? Now we're up to 93 total, how will I ever collect them all?!

    Thanks, Melody.

Mystica, I hadn't known of Persephone until I started blogging with many British book bloggers (and dear Chris!). That's one of the best things about blogging, how it opens one's horizons to new literature, isn't it?

Parrish Lantern, if I lived in England that's one of the first places I would go: the Persephone bookshop. They have tons of special events, too, such as an excursion to Bath in their last publication. Are you close enough to go to their store in London?

  18. Congrats! I keep hearing Persephone mentioned, but I'm not sure what it's all about. I'm sort of afraid to find out, given my addiction to books.

  19. Anna, especially given your addiction to books which are often about WWII. There are several Persephone books dealing with that subject; I think you'll be addicted all the more! Go, sign up! ;)

  20. Congratulations on being quoted in the Biannually! And I see you got the lovely bookmark for Miss Buncle, Married. I got the colourful one for The Sack of Bath. Speaking of Miss Buncle, Married, I'm currently reading that very book but alas, I do not have a luxurious Persephone edition... yet :-)

  21. I've read neither (none?) of the Miss Buncle books, yet. ;) I'm looking forward to them, too. Love Persephone titles! One of my favorites has got to be The Victorian Chaise-Longue, but Little Boy Lost moved me very deeply. I think I'm the only one alive who cares little for Miss Pettigrew Lives For a Day.

  22. Yes, congrats! I picked up my very first biannual while in London a few weeks ago and was very pleased to see so many familiar bloggers who've had their reviews published. We really do champion the most deserving books. :-)

I recently finished Miss Buncle's Book and it's the most delightful book I've read in a long while.
