Carl has announced the official beginning for the Readers Imbibing Peril Challenge V. That's right, it's the fifth one, and I'm finally getting to know what I want to read in this genre. He encourages us to read anything from horror to mystery, suspense to gothic, dark fantasy to thriller. There are several categories from which to choose, and hopefully, I'll be able to complete the following four by October 31:

ReplyDeleteOh my. I was going to put The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde on my list. But it finally got weeded in the final cut. You know, of course, that you now have me wishing I'd left it on the list, right? Yes, I so love reading everyone's lists, but it truly is a dangerous thing...

Oh I love the cover of the Laski book. Mine book is a Persephone so it's pretty too but this cover is quite cool.

ReplyDeleteI've never participated - I guess because I don't read horror, but mystery and thriller I could do. :<) Mr. Ripley is a fantastic book, and if you haven't seen it, you will enjoy the movie afterwards, I'm sure.

ReplyDeleteWhat a great list! So far I've chosen The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman, The Woman in White by Wilkie Collins and The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency. I'm still looking for a fourth.

Nice list! I just love that old cover on Victorian Chaise-Longue. I didn't put any Gaiman on my list this year ... but you never know what might actually end up being read during these two months :o)
ReplyDeleteI read Mr Ripley a couple of years ago and was just astounded by it - loved it! It sort of reminded me of Shirley Jackson in a mid-century modern sort of feel. Your list reminds me that I meant to seek out more of her work. Thanks, and happy reading!

You have a nice variety of options there :) I'm not much for creepy or horroy stories, but I do like a good, complex mystery.

ReplyDeleteI have not done this one before but am so taken with the idea and the gorgeous button, and my weary educator brain so needs some escapist fun that I think I just might. Thinking Daphne Du Maurier shorts and The Little Stranger and maybe a re-read of the graphic novel version of Dorian Gray. Love your choices too!
ReplyDeleteAn inspiring choice of books! I reread "The Talented Mr. Ripley" every few years--one of my favorite books. Never heard of the Gaiman collection of stories or the "Victorian Chaise Lounge" novel(the cover art and title are enough to make me want to search for that one).
