Normally, I hide behind a green and gold door covered in vines when in the blog-o-sphere. It's cozy that way, and there's a certain wonder about going straight to what we say as bloggers, instead of what we look like.
This is the only picture I've posted of myself online, for my birthday in 2007:
But, when Judith of Leeswammes's asked if I'd like to participate in one of her Book Bloggers Abroad posts, I agreed. So, if you want to know a bit more, head on over. I'd love to answer any questions you may have.

A lovely entry at Bloggers Abroad, and such lovely photos of you. I confess to a passing twinge of jealousy - your photo here reminds me of my one regret to date about aging - thinning hair!
ReplyDeleteLuckily, my mind seems not to be thinning - at least, not yet - so I'll be able to continue enjoying your marvelous posts for a good while!
It's so weird to age, isn't it Linda? My hair used to be way thicker, almost uncontrollable, but we do relish what we have.
ReplyDeleteYour comment of your mind not thinning instantly connected me to the book I'm currently reading: STiLL ALiCE. So sad, about a woman just turned fifty (!) who has early onset Alzheimer's Disease. It's an intense novel, and makes my moments of forgetfulness seem quite trivial. I'll be posting on it soon.
I loved learning more about you!
ReplyDeleteThis, from the first blogger to interview me. Thank you, sweet Kathy.
ReplyDeleteIt was great getting to know you better. And I absolutely love your header photo!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I've been in a quest for the Perfect Header For Me (assuming there is such a thing!), and while I liked the last recent template I heard it was distracting with the liens of the door going down the side. So, here's this; hopefully a keeper until at least Christmas. I hope you're enjoying your stay at WP, by the way.
ReplyDeletewelcome back to blogger. I hope it is treating you well. Did you ever officially sign up for the Vietnam War Reading Challenge?
ReplyDeleteIf not here's the form link: http://spreadsheets.google.com/viewform?formkey=dHhuWnRJYkJkMUpUQzNrbmhGb2dHNEE6MA
I'll hope you'll be joining us...this month we're doing a read-a-long for Larry Heinemann's Paco's Story.
OK, every time I click on your blog to make a comment (I read in Google Reader), you've changed your header to some other lovely picture. It's a treat to see!
ReplyDeleteAnd, my word, woman, you have more hair than I've ever had in my life, certainly not now. Could you send me your scraps and I'll just paste them on my rapidly thinning little head! LOL
Hi, Serena, actually, I haven't signed up for the Vietnam Challenge (I thought we were still in WWII). Thanks for visiting, and the invite, and I will enjoy reading the posts there.
ReplyDeleteKay, I know! I have tons of hair, and I don't even curl it on purpose; it's just that way. As to the changes in my header, seriously, they have to stop. My husband says, "What's your blog du jour?" and I hate to be so inconsistent. It's just taken me a really long time to get what I like. A. Really. Long. Time. So thanks for being patient.
Beautiful pic! And can't wait to read the post.
ReplyDeleteYou are lovely! Thanks for sharing your picture with us :o)
ReplyDeleteI like all your blog header changes. It's kinda fun to head on over to your place and wonder what gorgeous picture I will be greeted by! (That is probably a very ungrammatical sentence I just wrote, but I'm too tired to fix it *smile*.)
Andi, you've got plenty to do with "a baby in one hand and a book in the other" (love that, in your byline!). If I were you, I'd focus on those two things. ;)
ReplyDeleteTerri, oh dear! If you're greeted by a different picture every time you visit I'm definitely changing far too often. Still, I'm glad you like what you see.
I commented over on the guest post but I am commenting here too.. I am so glad you posted a photo! it is so nice to put a face to ..ah... well... you! lol I really feel that the blogs I read the most, I get to know you guys but seeing a picture makes you even more of a person. If that makes sense. I think I am just babbling now.
ReplyDeleteI should have posted a picture of myself too but I couldn't decide on one. Maybe one day I will unveil myself too!
I agree, Rachel. Putting a face with a name makes more of a connection. Somehow, the person becomes 'real'. Still, I like the aspect of learning about one another through thoughts as well as looks. I thought you'd posted a small picture of you and your honey when you were on Bloggers Abroad? Maybe not...
ReplyDeleteI did but it was tiny. I don't think you could really make anything out much.
ReplyDeleteI agree. I much prefer getting to know someone though their thoughts without 'looks' impacting on any impression. Makes you realise how in real life, we make assumptions because of how a person looks, dresses, speaks. Sad really. We are all so much more than that.
Lovely picture! I´d love to have more curly hair like you do :)
ReplyDeleteIt´s really weird to associate bloggers with their icon, I know you´re not a door ;D But somehow the connection sticks.
Great pic! It was neat to read about you and get a sense of who the blogger behind Dolce Bellezza is. Very cool! By the by, Chicago rocks! My little sister went to the Univeristy of Chicago and I loved visiting her there - that city is amazing! And I love that new picture you have of the red door! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteRachel, you said exactly what I meant. When I went to Interlochen National Music camp as a late teen, there was a uniform of corduroy knickers and a light blue shirt for all the girls. I loved it because it served as a great equalizer. One was known instantly on one's ability to play music, not one's style. The same thing kind of applies to blogging for me; it's very real just getting down to what we say and think about books. Life.
ReplyDeleteBina, sometimes I feel like a door! Or, often hide behind one. ;)
Nadia, Chicago is indeed a wonderful city. One of my favorite experiences, besides Orchestra Hall and The Art Institute, was biking Lake Shore Drive. To look at all the skyscrapers so up close was breathtaking! Your litle sister must be very smart to go to the University of Chicago. I've only been certified to teach Jr. Great Books there.
I read your post in the 'Book Bloggers Abroad' series and loved it! It was nice to see your pictures here and in that post - it is always nice to know how a blog-friend looks like :) My Russian teacher, during one of our classes, wanted to describe 'curly hair' in Russian and she first looked at me and then looked at one of my classmates who had curly hair - but now after looking at your picture I know that, without knowing you, she was referring to your hair :)
ReplyDeleteI love your new header image! It looks like the green door in your 'Avatar' have given over to the read door in your header image :)
Gosh, I thought I'd seen other pictures - color, standing, red dress, other women (family?). And one with your son?? Please tell me I didn't make this up. :<)
ReplyDeleteme again, and what's wrong with changing one's blog header? :<) I do it all the time. There is just so much beauty in the world and I love to see it when I open my blog. I could never just have one picture.
ReplyDeleteVishy, how sweet to read your anecdote about curly hair. It is one of my favorite physical attributes, if you'll excuse the pride. ;)
ReplyDeleteNan,you're right! Apparently I'm the forgetful one; I've totally forgotten the ones I put up when my son took me to the Mother Son Brunch and a buffet luncheon my mother had. Goodness, you remember my life better than I do! And, thanks so much for the 'comfort' about the header pictures. I agree with you about so much beauty to share, and the love of photographs, I just worry about inconsistency affecting any readers. I'm giving that up, now, because I don't think I could ever have just one picture either. I've loved all the ones which have graced your blog over the years. XO
What a lovely post in the Book Bloggers Abroad series! I'm happy to have found out more information about you. Great picture. I love your hair! :-)
ReplyDeleteNan beat me to it! I remember seeing more pix of you over the years. :)
ReplyDeleteAnd you can change your header anytime you like! It's like opening a letter from a dear friend. Always a welcome surprise, never knowing what's inside.
I need to get a lesson from you or Nan on how to include a picture in my header. I'm toying with the idea of creating a new book blog (using Blogger). When I've attempted to make the switch from Classic to whatever the "new" format is (as in 2 years ago new!), all my Amazon Associate links get funky. So, I've thought of just starting a new one and providing links to my old blog and posts. I actually created a test blog and put a photo in the header but it was huge! I'm sure there's an easy way to get it down to the right size, right? And then there's the dilemma of what to name the new blog! Lesley's Book Nook II? Ack! ;)
Lesley, remember all the tech lessons you've given me? In 2006-8? I think you're wise to create a test blog, in which you can play for hours to get the effect you want. It's so easy with Blogger's new design template (and, had they had the option of listing one's pages across the top in 2009 I'd never have gone to WordPress!). As to getting your photo to fit, have you tried resizing it on Picasa? That helps. Hey, I'm the Queen of Change (which is really funny, because that's only in Blogland; every where else I'm Miss Constancy: same chocolate cake preference, same lipstick color preference, same church for ten years, same, same, same) so I'd love to put it to use if it would help you. XO
ReplyDeleteThanks, Bellezza! Is there a specific size the photos should be when you upload them? I guess I could just look at the Blogger help pages. Too lazy. :)
ReplyDeleteWordPress would give the exact measurements needed for the header in your template of choice, but with Blogger I just by guess and by golly. (How's that for a teacher response?) Another thing you might try is to resize your photo in a draft post (small, medium, large, extra large of each) and see which one fits best in your header. Does that make sense?
ReplyDeleteYes, it makes perfect sense! Thanks for your help!!
ReplyDeleteOh hello Bellezza! Glad to see your face at last :)
ReplyDeleteNice to see a face behind the lovely blog posts. Will head off to Book Blogger Abroad to read your post :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty picture and you have such gorgeous hair! Can't wait to read the interview :)
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about staying more anonymous. I've posted a few photos on my blog but none that really show me close up. But it's nice to put names to faces and faces to blogs so thanks for sharing the link and your lovely pictures with us.
ReplyDeleteSometimes I feel I'm in the minority for posting pictures of myself and life, but I do remember feeling a sort of reluctance the first time I did.
ReplyDeleteYou're beautiful, Bellezza. And I do remember another post where you posted pictures of yourself--I think maybe it was a beach outing with your family a few years ago. Regardless of the post it was a gorgeous picture of you at the beach.
Sometimes the anonymity behind blogger is nice but I appreciate the personal connections as well as we tend to share so much of ourselves in some respect or another.
You are SO lovely! I mean it. :) On the inside as well as on the outside..
