So, in my post of Spring Break Supplies I didn't know this darling, red ProAir HFA would be added! I've been coughing for two weeks now, as if I was a chain smoker, which I'm not, and giving birth to my lungs. This morning when I woke up I thought Minou was laying on my chest, but no, it was just the heaviness from bronchitis which I discovered I had after finally hauling my butt into the doctor's. Hey, give me fourteen days, and I'll eventually go.This cute little inhaler is at least red, to match my lipstick and my car. And my copy of The Brothers Karamazov.
Twenty people have now signed up to read along with us. I have purchased twenty five Russian bookmarks from the little Russian shop near my house for each one who completes the task. Hopefully, I'll need more.
In any case, my reading for April includes The Brothers Karamazov of course, but I'm hoping I'll have time for additional works. I want to read some books of poetry for Poetry Month and the Clover, Bee and Reverie challenge. I want to read The Clash of Kings and Cosmicomics for the Once Upon a Time IV Challenge. I want to read Crossing and Guest House which were sent to me by their respective publishers for review. So, April promises to be an exciting month.
Especially if I can start breathing again.
I hope the bronchitis goes away soon. We've had sudden changes in weather and my 6 year-old has been coughing up a storm. I'm hoping to read tons this month too. There's something about April that seems so new and fresh. Looking back, more so than March. Happy reading.
ReplyDeleteOh goodness -how horrible to have that to deal with on your spring break. I had a bout with that last week, but mercifully it was rather short lived. I hope yours is as well.
ReplyDeleteI have Brothers in my hand, and going off to crack it open (deep breath!)
I hope you are feeling better soon!
ReplyDeleteI went and bought a better edition of Karamazov today after signing up. I wanted to make sure I had a decent translation for this. I haven't started yet, but I am planning on it tomorrow.
That rots about your breathing - feel better soon! Hope the inhaler helps!
ReplyDeleteI've begun Karamazov today and so far am really liking it. Looking forward to reading more and discussing it!
Cheers!
I hope you'd be okay soon!
ReplyDeleteOh, no! An inhaler?! My hubby wound up having to use one (it's purple and round - I think it's generally prescribed for asthma sufferers) after his terrible cold/sinus infection. So far, I've been lucky, although my throat was a bit sore last night. I'm hoping it's spring allergies kicking in. I worked in the garden for an hour or so yesterday afternoon and probably stirred up a bunch of dust from the decaying leaves. But I digress...
ReplyDeleteI hope you're feeling 100% very soon!! Good luck with all your reading goals. I have a few new ARCs I want to get to, plus a few books that were given to me so generously (Keeping the Feast to name one!).
Be well, my friend.
Oh you poor thing hope you get well soon. My asthma kicks in at this time of year, spring might be beautiful but its a pain on my chest and breathing, so I empathise.
ReplyDeleteHope your get well soon Belle... Take a good rest and not exert yourself.
ReplyDeleteA childhood asthma sufferer, I have used the blue, the brown, the purple round inhalers... the aerosol spray, the powder, you name it I have tried it...
Now I'm elevating to the Red one called Symbicort, so far it had worked well and my asthma is in control.
Take care.
I'm so looking forward to your thoughts on Cosmicomics. Happy reading in April, and I hope you feel better soon!
ReplyDeleteDude, you should so not wait 14 days.
ReplyDeleteI just felt like saying that. :) Hope you feel better, soon. My reader has a Christmas post at the top of your blog, but I don't see it here. I had to say something about that, even though it disappeared because it seems we have the same trouble with our boys. BOTH of mine flunked at least one class because they didn't feel like bothering with the homework (Daniel used to just cram unworked pages in his locker -- at the end of his senior year, there was an avalanche).
In the case of my eldest, he lost 2 scholarship opportunities because of that one flunked class. Had he passed, he would have had over a 3.5 GPA. He had a 3.48. That was an easy $5,000 from the state, down the drain. And, he was a National Merit SEMIfinalist, but they don't give the full scholarship to you if you've done something that doesn't look good, so he didn't reach finalist. He could have gone to any school in the country if he'd been a finalist.
He still got two scholarships and a grant, so we were happy. And, he's still a goofball, but since he's engaged to a doctor, he thinks it's just fine if he continues to be a goofball. Motherhood should come with sedatives.
With all those activities planned, it seems you'll need to take a breather Bellezza :)
ReplyDeleteI really wish I could join you guys for the Karamazov, but this month I'm just gonna stick on things I'm sure I could find time for. One of which are short stories. And I've decided to start with another Russian you probably also like... Chekhov :)
Never a good time to get sick but this might be the best time as I suspect you would go in to teach no matter how you felt. :) Take a deep breath now and then as you read about those brothers. Can't wait for the first posts next week!
ReplyDeleteIsn't the beginning of a new month filled with promise? Especially as we face the coming Spring. I hope your month of April is chock full of reading joy, Vasilly.
ReplyDeleteBecca, it's so exciting when I think of those of us all over the blogosphere opening up Dostoeyvsky. (If nothing else, I've learned to spell his name!) Take a deep breath, as you say, and jump in; we'll have fun!
ReplyDeleteI'm gathering translation is key, here, Allie. I'm not sure which one you purchased, but I have the V and P (don't ask me their full names right now, my head is filled with inhaler mist!) and it's very easy to get into. I'm interested in what translation you'll be reading.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Lex!
ReplyDeleteI've begun it, too, in fact I've already finished Part 1. It's very good, and I'm so looking forward to reading everyone's thoughts. We'll have a lot to discuss, from families to faith.
ReplyDeleteYou have Keeping The Feast, I have my wonderful copy of Sabbath...we'll get to them! I have loved the pages I've read, but I need to still my heart to read it all the way through. I'm thinking it would be good to read as a devotional, a chapter a day kind of thing. The author is so wise.
ReplyDeleteThis is the first time I've ever used an inhaler, and it is helping me a lot. I hope Rod's helps him, and that you, my friend, avoid it altogether! Happy Easter, by the way, if I don't 'talk' to you sooner.
I have a whole newly gained sympathy for people with asthma, Simon. I actually was scared yesterday, when it became so difficult to breath. I really feel badly for people who suffer from this on a regular basis; it's torture!
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to discussing Cosmicomics with you, too, Ana. Trust you to know Cavalino, when I've read nothing by him yet. You are so good at the fantasy genre!
ReplyDeleteI've seen ads for Symbicort, and I'm glad that it's helping you! As I said to Simon, you have all my sympathy. It's a terrible thing to endure the feeling that you can't catch a full breath.
ReplyDeleteNancy, it's so weird...I grabbed the Christmas post from a few years ago to attach to a link I wrote on my Dostoeyvsky post still in draft, and apparently it republished. You'd think I'd know more about blogging now, after four years, wouldn't you?! That's what I get for coming over to WordPress and still figuring it out a full year later.
ReplyDeleteI know we've commiserated about our sons in years past; they still seem to be terribly similar. You're right, motherhood should definitely come with Happy Pills. Of any kind. :)
Oh, I know you have a full plate, Mark David, with the exciting things your Asian book group is reading among other choices. I'll be interested to know which Chekhov you chose, and your thoughts on it when you finish it. One day I'll join in something you read, and I hope it's before the JLC4!
ReplyDeleteWell, Frances, you know me pretty well to suspect that I'd go in sick. (You're so right!) As I mentioned in my replies above, I've already finished Part 1 and am on to Part 2. I'm enmeshed already, loving the characters, the mood, the steadily building tension, the reflections on faith. I can't wait for the posts either! Thanks so much for participating!
ReplyDeleteYou reminded me of my husband...he will wait about the same amount of time before getting himself to the doctor's. I hope you get all better soon. Weird thing...a Christmas post from 2007 popped up in my reader for your blog...not that I mind since I'll take a little of Christmas all throughout the year:) I finished a book yesterday and am ready to get to Bros K. I feel a little giddy with nervousness rereading after all these years and I can't wait to compare the two experiences.
ReplyDeleteI let myself cough for a week recently before I finally got around to buying some medicine. I was done coughing within two days! Hope you feel better soon. I am super excited for my April reading plans - I started The Brothers Karamazov today!! :)
ReplyDeleteBook Psmith, did you read The Brothers Karamazov once before?? Wow, if you did it will be really exciting comparing the two experiences. I'm so happy to have the participation we have in order to discuss this book. It seems there will be a lot to talk about it!
ReplyDelete(And note to self, when I attach a link from an old post to a newer one, the old one republishes; hence Christmas during Easter in you reader. Sorry!)
Sarah, I'm super excited too! I almost want it to be Thursday right now so the discussion can begin! My medicine kicked in, too, now so I'm done coughing. Why don't we go to the doctor's sooner?!
ReplyDeleteHope the April air and Spring sunshine can bring a speedy recovery to you. And have a blessed Easter, you and yours!
ReplyDeleteYes, we will. When the time is just right, I'm sure we'll both get to our books. I still want to get my own copy of Sabbath. It looks like something I'd enjoy.
ReplyDeleteI hope you're feeling 100% very quickly. I thought I was suffering from allergies these past few days, but it appears to be a spring cold! I'm off to fix another cup of tea and curl up with my new book.
Happy Easter to you, too!
xoxo
Hi, M! While I cannot join the Russian group, it's not for lack of interest, but time!!!!! Still be reassured that you have opened our families eyes to Japanese literature and I was just showing our son the manga that I continue to follow (Emma).
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely weekend, glad you're feeling better (you are, right?) and oh, btw, my cough from the darn virus/cold/whatever I protracted in Feb lasted for 8 weeks. Yeah. Nice.
So with gorgeous weather and a holiday weekend, you are hopefully having a grand time!
Happy Easter!
I hope you feel better. The bronchitis sounds nasty.
ReplyDeleteI wish I could join in the read-a-long. I'm totally tempted and sold by the bookmark! I shall have to see if I'm able to get a copy before the starting date or I may have to join in later if I get the chance. When reading such an epic and no doubt memorable book, I want my own copy. Of course, all the books I want/need never go on sale until after I've uhmmed and ahhed and finally buy it, *then* they go on sale.
Happy Easter. :-)
While we always welcome spring with open arms, it seems to sneak into our lungs every year. Hope you're feeling better by now.
