For those who like noir, I'd like to recommend the works of Natsuo Kirino:
ReplyDeleteOut

Real World
:)
I agree-start with Real World, the if you like that go on to Out then Grostesque
ReplyDeleteYippeee!!!! everything in one place. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteYou should add Battle Royale by Koushun Takami there...It's awesome
ReplyDeleteMusashi by Eiji Yoshikawa I've heard is really good as well! I have too many books on my "To Be Read" shelf now, but I'll join next year! Sounds like a great challenge!
ReplyDeleteI added your suggestion, too, Carin. I'm always glad to know of worthy books in this genre, so thanks for leaving a new title! I hope you can join in sometime, but of course, no pressure.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the recommendation; I put it on the list!
ReplyDelete[...] 06/07/2010 · Leave a Comment Organized by Bellezza, the Japanese Literature Challenge 4 runs from June 1, 2010 to January 31, 2011. All it requires is that you read one book of Japanese Literature. There is a lovely list of book suggestions here. [...]
ReplyDeleteUnderground by Haruki Murakami is a really thought provoking book. I originally read it as until 1q84 comes out in english I've read pretty much everything else by him, but on turning the first few pages I realised that not only was this pure Murakami, it was also just a fascinating look at the a society works & deals with what at the time was the worst attack on themselves by people who where themselves.
ReplyDeleteI haven't read Underground yet, you give quite a recommendation there. I better check my library to see if they have it or not.
ReplyDeleteThere's a more complete review of underground on my Blog & also worth a go is " What I talk about when I talk about running" this not only gives insight on Murakami as in individual & a writer, but on what its like to be a long distance runner( made me almost want to take up distance running)
