Here's a clue, dear Holly, our heroine:
If a man is exceedingly handsome, and yet he tells you nothing about his past, takes down all the photographs of your past, and latches on to your daughter as if she's his own, run. Don't marry him.
Yet, this is exactly what Holly Barrett does. Overcome by her loneliness, in tandem with her passion for the handsome stranger, she succumbs to all his charms. Her life is irrevocably changed ever after.
This is a novel of suspense and drama, a quick read that would make a marvelous film because of its plot.
It even reminds me of the song by Soft Cell:
Sometimes I feel I've got to
Run away I've got to
Get away
From the pain that you drive into the heart of me
The love we share
Seems to go nowhere
And I've lost my light
For I toss and turn I can't sleep at night
(chorus)
Once I ran to you (I ran)
Now I'll run from you
This tainted love you've given
I give you all a boy could give you
Take my tears and that's not nearly all
Oh...tainted love
Tainted love
Now I know I've got to
Run away I've got to
Get away...
Read it, and you'll see why.

Hehe, I'm guessing I know what you mean :) I did saw this book at the TLC site. It's a beautiful cover, isn't it? Reminds me of On Chesil Beach.
ReplyDeleteI am always up for suspense....I'll give it a try. Just finished White Picket Fences...have you read that?
ReplyDeleteNo, I haven't read White Picket Fences. Did you review it? I'll look into that book.
ReplyDeleteIt's such a peaceful cover compared to the story! Yet, there is an ominous quality to it, somehow; perhaps due to the dark colors? I haven't read On Chesil Beach, only Atonement and Saturday. Is On Chesil Beach the same kind of emotionally wrenching drama?
ReplyDeleteFor the most part I would say that it's not emotionally wrenching, but it's a surprisingly deep and meaningful story. I would assume that most females would appreciate more than Saturday :)
ReplyDeleteI love this cover. I've seen some talk about this book around the blogosphere. Think I will add it to my wish list. Thanks for your thoughts.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a perfect read! I like scarey!
ReplyDeleteYour review has really piqued my interest!
ReplyDeleteI had this song in my head ALL day! ;)
ReplyDeleteSounds like an interesting read! And it truly is amazing how women can fall all over a good looking guy - even in real life! :D I love the cover as well!
ReplyDeleteIt's one of those songs which will not leave, eh, Lesley? I remember being on a ferry to Cork, Ireland in the mid-eighties, and asking the disc jockey to play it. He kept assuring me he would, but he never did. Somehow, I'm not sure why, I always liked it. But, maybe not for the whole day long.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy a good suspense novel, and I am a sucker for gorgeous cover - this book seems to have both! Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
ReplyDeleteIt's really sad what people will do when they're lonely.
ReplyDeleteInterestingly enough, you're the second person to have brought up song lyrics in your review of Tainted. LOL
Thanks for being on this tour!
